San Francisco: Day 2

Our second day in San Francisco started off with a tour of the USS Pampanito submarine.  Before we left we found a Groupon deal to tour this submarine and it was really cool!  We both decided, however, that we would never want to live on a submarine (especially with 70 other guys and no showers!).  Plus, Rob is a little too tall for everything on that sub.

Rob with the bunk beds, and the smile on his face that his bed at home is much bigger. :)

Next stop... the Boudin bakery! I absolutely love the sourdough bread they make there, and I was excited to eat my soup and bread bowl for lunch! We also took a few minutes to watch the bakers make their crab, turtle, and alligator shaped breads.

We also had to stop at Ghirardelli square for some chocolate!

And then we took the trolley to Lombard Street... the most crooked street in the world.  We watched the cars slowly make their way back and forth down the street and admired the nice (but pricey!) homes on the street.  We made our way down to the bottom, got a picture, and hiked our way back up just in time to catch the next trolley!

Our last event of the day was a Giants baseball game!  One more baseball field to check off our list!  We got to the stadium a little early to watch batting practice and to walk around the stadium.  We had no idea there was an actual slide inside the Coke bottle!  Unfortunately, you have to be under 48 inches to slide down, which Rob was pretty bummed about.  But then he got his hot dog and I got my Philly cheesesteak and we were happy as can be. :)

The view from our seats!  We had a great view of everything, including the bay!

San Francisco: Day 1

After long hours of work and a tough busy season, Rob and I decided to treat ourselves to a weekend getaway to San Francisco!  We also figured it would be quite a while before we have another trip with just the two of us.  We flew out early Thursday morning and took the BART train and a trolley to get to our hotel (which was pretty eventful with suitcases! We are glad we just had two!).

Rob getting ready to ride the trolley! We didn't get a picture with the bum that
sang to us with his guitar for about 15 minutes while we waiting for the trolley to get there.  :)

After we checked into our hotel, we made our way over to the Ferry Building for some lunch.  Before we got to San Francisco, we bought the City Pass which included a Muni Pass that allowed us to take all the public transportation around the city (we highly recommend it!).  At the Ferry Building we had a delicious pulled pork sandwich... probably one of the best ones I have ever had!

After lunch we went to the aquarium at Pier 39. We saw lots of fish, including Dory from Finding Nemo.  We were lucky and got there just in time to see them feed all the sharks in the shark tank!   And they had a little pool full of fish that you could touch... as you can see from the picture, touching fish isn't my favorite thing to do!

We topped off our day with a tour of Alcatraz!  We took a little cruise boat over to the island and the tour basically drops you off and lets you explore.  They have an audio tour of the prison that is really fun to listen to.  Rob was looking forward to being locked in a prison cell, but I guess they don't do that anymore.

I haven't quite figured out the mischievous look on Rob's face in this picture. :)

We had a really fun first day!  We made a stop at Pier 39 for dinner at a delicious seafood restaurant.  Of course, I got a burger instead of seafood, but Rob really enjoyed his fish!  The best part was the fresh Boudin sourdough bread they served with the meal (more about Boudin later!).  Our last adventure was getting back to our hotel... anyone who has taken public transportation in a big city can understand that sometimes you feel like me in this picture...

But we made it back safe and sound!  And got some sleep for our second big day in the city!

Baby's First Bib

My brother, Tyler, (who is 17, single, and good-looking) has convinced me that we "need" to buy this bib for the baby. . .

We might just give in and go back to the store and buy it!  I'm sure Uncle Travis and Uncle Stockton wouldn't mind either.
