San Francisco: Day 1

After long hours of work and a tough busy season, Rob and I decided to treat ourselves to a weekend getaway to San Francisco!  We also figured it would be quite a while before we have another trip with just the two of us.  We flew out early Thursday morning and took the BART train and a trolley to get to our hotel (which was pretty eventful with suitcases! We are glad we just had two!).

Rob getting ready to ride the trolley! We didn't get a picture with the bum that
sang to us with his guitar for about 15 minutes while we waiting for the trolley to get there.  :)

After we checked into our hotel, we made our way over to the Ferry Building for some lunch.  Before we got to San Francisco, we bought the City Pass which included a Muni Pass that allowed us to take all the public transportation around the city (we highly recommend it!).  At the Ferry Building we had a delicious pulled pork sandwich... probably one of the best ones I have ever had!

After lunch we went to the aquarium at Pier 39. We saw lots of fish, including Dory from Finding Nemo.  We were lucky and got there just in time to see them feed all the sharks in the shark tank!   And they had a little pool full of fish that you could touch... as you can see from the picture, touching fish isn't my favorite thing to do!

We topped off our day with a tour of Alcatraz!  We took a little cruise boat over to the island and the tour basically drops you off and lets you explore.  They have an audio tour of the prison that is really fun to listen to.  Rob was looking forward to being locked in a prison cell, but I guess they don't do that anymore.

I haven't quite figured out the mischievous look on Rob's face in this picture. :)

We had a really fun first day!  We made a stop at Pier 39 for dinner at a delicious seafood restaurant.  Of course, I got a burger instead of seafood, but Rob really enjoyed his fish!  The best part was the fresh Boudin sourdough bread they served with the meal (more about Boudin later!).  Our last adventure was getting back to our hotel... anyone who has taken public transportation in a big city can understand that sometimes you feel like me in this picture...

But we made it back safe and sound!  And got some sleep for our second big day in the city!

Baby's First Bib

My brother, Tyler, (who is 17, single, and good-looking) has convinced me that we "need" to buy this bib for the baby. . .

We might just give in and go back to the store and buy it!  I'm sure Uncle Travis and Uncle Stockton wouldn't mind either.

It's A . . .

BOY!!! We went in for our 16 week appointment this week and the doctor said he is 90% sure it is a boy! We know it is still a little early to be able to tell for sure, but we think 90% is pretty good odds. :) My mom flew in from Utah for the appointment and she was able to see the ultrasound of the baby and be there when we found out!

HE is now 16 weeks along! It is getting a little crowded in there now!

Last week my family sent me this picture… those wearing blue thought it would be a boy and those wearing pink thought it would be a girl. They also gave us some name suggestions (Albert?!). :) I seriously thought it was a girl for the longest time, but then a couple of days before the appointment I started to doubt myself. I guess it was just the baby trying to tell me he is a boy!
I was able to take a couple of days off from work, now that busy season is over, and spend some time with my mom! We got a ton of stuff done and it was so fun to get excited and ready for the baby! We found a crib, bedding set, and pack-n-play that we like, but haven’t bought them yet, and we also looked at pacifiers and bottles, baby carriers, and a bunch of other things… and of course we went shopping for some clothes! We did keep the receipts, just in case, but here are some of the things we found. Let me just say that you can find some awesome things at Ross for a great deal! We found a Carter’s outfit for $7, then we went to Babies R Us later and the exact same outfit was $20!I think our baby might be a little confused when he gets here because he is going to have so many nicknames. In fact, he has acquired quite a few nicknames and we haven’t even picked out his real name. I just hope none of them actually stick! :) Here are some of the nicknames:

Beans
Albert Pujols Irwin
Sherwin Irwin
Marvin Irwin
Lose Irwin (as in “lose or win”)
Winston Irwin

I guess that just means we will have to pick out a name sooner than later so he doesn’t acquire any more names!

All I know is this baby is going to have a lot of lovin’ coming from his family! We are so
excited for him to come in just 24 weeks… and hopefully those 24 weeks will go by fast!
And here’s the bump! We are slowly getting bigger!
