We have been very busy the last year. I blame not blogging on our house. We bought a townhouse last April and we have been busy trying to make it our own. We have painted nearly every square inch of the place, done electrical work, scraped ceilings, remodeled our main bathroom, spruced up our half bath and kitchen (kitchen is still a work in progress), and done lots of decorating. We love where we live and we have awesome neighbors and an awesome ward. Most of all, we love that Carson has lots of grass and space to play! He is an active boy and I can't imagine living in our old apartment with him right next to a busy road and no grass.
Speaking of Carson, I'll try and do a little catch-up of the last year of his life...
7 Months
At 7 months Carson discovered the swings... mostly because his grandma would spend hours outside with him while we were working on painting our house! He loved the swing as a baby, so it was no surprise that the playground swings lulled him right to sleep.
Carson also has a fascination with socks and shoes (it's even worse now that he is older!). He gets a kick out of taking his socks off. It's a guaranteed laugh every time.
8 Months
From when he was a newborn, Carson has always hated his car seat. I envied those moms who had babies that fell asleep instantly when they got in the car. It made going anywhere so hard because he would scream and scream the entire car ride. But I gave Carson some "tough love" and told him he would just have to get used to it! This picture is a result of our outing one day... a miracle happened and he actually fell asleep in the car. This was after lots of screaming and banging the bat against the car door. :) I'm happy to report he did eventually grow out of this phase... he started warming up to his car seat around 11 months.
Carson, like his mom, has a love for Slurpees. He has always done really well with drinking through a straw and I don't know how he doesn't get a brain freeze because he drinks so much. Carson also started army crawling in his eighth month. He was always very interested in the TV stand, so we had to invest in a new one with doors and drawers. :) That's daddy putting together the new one.
9 Months
We spent most of Carson's ninth month in Cooperstown, NY; NYC; and Utah. Uncle Stockton had a baseball tournament in Cooperstown, so we all tagged along and went to New York City the week after. Carson was a champion traveler. He even survived the 8 hour car ride into New York City... we were mostly stuck in traffic going in and so we didn't get to stop often.
We stayed in Utah until my brother, Tyler, left on his mission to Paraguay. While in Utah on July 5, Carson took his first steps! He was 9 1/2 months old. He hadn't mastered crawling until after he started walking. I guess he was just tired of being on the floor all the time and wanted to see life from a whole new perspective!
It was good for us to be around Tyler for a while before he left. Tyler always loved to play with Carson and they became best buds. Here is a picture of Carson saying good-bye for two years!
10 Months
Carson officially started walking at 10 months! Once he started, he could not be stopped.
Luckily, we were able to go camping with Robbie's family before he started walking (can you imagine a baby learning how to walk all over the dirt and sand?!). He was once again a champion traveler and loved playing in the sand and putting his feet in the water.
Here are some more pictures from his tenth month... the top right one shows how he fell asleep in his crib one afternoon. As you can see from his wet shirt, he was getting all four of his molars in. They finally popped through at 11 months!
11 Months
Carson started mastering the stairs around this time. It's impossible to get a baby gate at the bottom of the stairs with the way ours are set up, so we put some chairs there... that stopped him for a little while, but eventually he figured it out.
Carson also loves chocolate. He would do anything for a chocolate chip! One day I was making dinner and I got a little to generous with the chocolate chips... he didn't eat much of his dinner that night! Oops.
Here are my two favorite boys! (in their matching ties... so cute.)
Stay tuned for my next post... Carson's first birthday!
